You do not need to start anything. After you download the application, you will see the option "Sling it"
in Windows Explorer if you right click on a file or folder. You can upload and share files directly from Windows Explorer.
No. There are no restrictions on the kind of file you can send.
Yes, you can send files of any size or type, or any number of files. However if your file(s) are very large,
it may take a long time for them to upload and for your friends to download. How long will depend on your internet connection
and network traffic. You can check your upload progress in the Slinger application window while uploading. If you turn your
computer off or your network connection is disrupted for some reason, Slingvine will automatically
pause uploading and resume when your connection is re-established. If your files add up to
more than 50MB, you will have to leave your
computer on and the Slinger client application running until your friends have downloaded the files.
If your files add up to less than 50MB, you can exit the Slinger or turn your computer off after
they are uploaded. However, because this is a P2P service, file transfers are more efficient if you leave your Slinger running.
Anybody you send the link to the webpage with your pictures will be able to access the page and download them.
How fast or slow it takes them will depend on their personal internet connections. Slingvine manages simultaneous
downloads efficiently, so it shouldn't be a problem if several people access your page at the same time.
By default your files will be hosted for seven (7) days. In future versions this will be configurable.
No copies are made of your files. The files are uploaded only into a temporary repository and
are deleted after 7 days.
The only person who has the address where these files are stored is you, and the only people who can access your files
are the people who you send the link to. The site is public, so anyone who discovers the link can access the website with
your files. However, this link is not saved anywhere or shared with anyone else but you. The link is encrypted and protected
for use by the application during uploading and for deletion. The hosting service we use is ultimately responsible
for the content that it stores and has legal rights to view it, but in practice this is
unlikely unless your link is sent to them with a complaint. See the next FAQ for questions
regarding legal and illegal content. No other parties have access to any of your files. We do not
collect any personal data on our users, with the exception of email addresses for people who wish to receive Slingvine information.
Slingvine does not condone use of its software for sending files that contain illegal content or files that cannot be legally
distributed. However Slingvine does not monitor the content of the files that are sent using our software, nor do we have
access to information about who is sending or receiving files.
By current law (as of our release in February 2008) Slingvine is not responsible
for the content sent by its users. If it is discovered by authorities that illegal content or content that cannot be legally
downloaded is being made available for download, we will shut down the page and we will delete
all content as required by law. Be aware that the laws are constantly changing and Slingvine will comply with all legal rules and restrictions.
The files are deleted after a set period of
time which you can set in the application settings. By default the files are hosted for 7 days. After the files are
deleted there are no means of restoring them.
No. The Slingvine application is free to download and you can send all the files you want for free. All money we
make is made from advertising on the page where you download the files.
